Volunteer Help Wanted!
The Red Deer Food Bank now uses a "grocery store" or client-choice model, allowing users to select their own food items rather than receiving pre-packed hampers. This approach aims to restore dignity, reduce food waste, and provide tailored, nutritious choices, in a respectful environment.
Clients shop for food that fits their dietary preferences and needs, which reduces waste compared to pre-packed, standardized hampers.
We aim to improve the experience of receiving aid, making it more personal and less stigmatizing. This initiative aligns with a broader shift in food security services to focus on dignity, autonomy, and healthier food choices for families in need.
