Come see what’s cooking in our Community Kitchen

This is an exciting new venture for the Food Bank, with a lot of potential opportunities!

During the summer months, food will be prepared in our Kitchen for use in the Food Trucks. Over the ‘shoulder seasons’ and winter months when the Food Trucks are not operating,  we’ll be hosting cooking classes for the community, as well as catered and special events.

Classes

The Rotary Club of Red Deer East Community Kitchen is a new venture for the Food Bank and the realization of a decade-long dream.

In the mid-2000’s donations started coming in to build a space where the Food Bank could prepare, preserve, and provide food for the community. This commercial kitchen would allow them to stretch food budgets further and show community members how they can too.

These funds were set aside specifically for this project. With plans in place and funds saved, the generous donation from the Rotary Club of Red Deer East presents the opportunity to make good on this initiative.

The kitchen will be equipped to break down bulk food for distribution in their hamper program, offer educational opportunities for adults and youth, and eventually provide catering and food preparation services.

CATERING

As a social enterprise of the Red Deer Food Bank, you can hire our Catering Services for your event and know that the profits are going to help others in the community get the food they need.

Our kitchen is expected to be fully operational by September. Once we park the Food Trucks for the season, we will be starting to fire up the stove in the kitchen.

Catering Services will be available between October and April. We will be able to provide food service for your event, meeting or family gathering.

If you are serving 20 guests or 200, keep us in mind for your food service options.

For information or to book a catered event, email chef@reddeerfoodbank.com.
