Job Posting: Food Production Technician
Location: Red Deer, Alberta
Schedule: Full-Time | Monday to Friday, with occasional weekends

The Red Deer Food Bank seeks a passionate, dedicated, and experienced Food Production Technician to join our growing food security initiatives. This role is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment combining horticultural expertise and community service.
Our site features three hydroponic farms, a production greenhouse, a thriving microgreens operation, and outdoor community gardens — all focused on increasing fresh food access for those in need.
Key Responsibilities
Operate and maintain hydroponic systems, monitoring water quality, nutrient levels, lighting, and plant health.
Oversee greenhouse production, including seeding, transplanting, harvesting, and pest management.
Manage microgreens production, from germination through harvest and packaging.
Assist with community garden coordination and upkeep, supporting volunteers and educational programming.
General tasks include cleaning, organizing tools/equipment, compost management, and seasonal maintenance.
Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and community partners to maintain a welcoming and productive environment.
Qualifications:
Minimum 1–2 years of experience in greenhouse production, hydroponics, or related horticultural field
Strong understanding of plant care, irrigation, pest/disease identification, and food safety practices
Ability to lift to 50 lbs and work in various weather conditions
Excellent teamwork and communication skills; experience working with volunteers is an asset
Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Willingness to work occasional weekends and flexible hours as needed
