Introducing: Food Trucks!

We’ve had a lot of positive feedback and excitement about our Food Trucks since we started bringing them out to the community.

Who doesn’t love street food? The ice cream truck has been fun to see transform and embraced by young and old alike. And our Lunch Truck has been very welcome in the neighbourhoods where we’ve “weighed anchor” the past couple of weeks.

Next to roll out will be one that we currently call “Black Beauty” – though the paint job won’t be black for long – along with the long-awaited return of the Bar-B-Crew! BBQ’s are back baby!

You might be asking:
Why Food Trucks for a Food Bank?

The Food Trucks are a social enterprise, intended to raise funds for the Food Bank so we can purchase items for our Emergency Hamper Program – items like milk, meat, and margarine. With the ever-increasing pressure on everyone with the cost of living now starting to creep to double-digits, more funds are needed to keep up with the demand.

Social enterprises are businesses with a social objective, in our case, helping to feed people facing food insecurity. Funding for social enterprises is obtained primarily by selling goods and services to consumers. Maximizing profits is not the primary goal, but revenue still plays an essential role in the ventures’ sustainability.

Profits made from the sale of ice cream, meals and drinks from our food truck go directly to support the needs of the Food Bank and its clients.

Essentially, when you get a meal, you help give a meal to someone else in need.

Where will I find the Food Trucks, and when?

We are working on firming up some regularly scheduled appearances, and you can expect us at special events in the community throughout the season. We will be listing our locations and dates on our Events page to see where we will be parked next and check out the Food Trucks page for more details on what is being offered. Be sure to follow us on our social media channels for updates.

Can I book a Food Truck for an event?

For sure! All inquiries about Food Trucks, Catering services, or the Community Kitchen can be sent to Chef Shane at chef@reddeerfoodbank.com We would be thrilled to come support your event.

How can I pay for my food at one of your trucks?

We can accept debit, credit card or cash.

Can I bring donations to the Food Truck?

In some situations, we can plan to bring some collection carts for food donations, for example, if we are at an all-day festival or market. However, we won’t be collecting food donations for short-term parking locations as we may not have the space or manpower to manage it.

We can take monetary donations. Donations of $20 or more are eligible for a tax receipt, so you can leave your name and address for it to be mailed to you… with our thanks.
