There’s something of interest for everyone.

As we expand some of our social enterprise services to help fund our food hamper programs, we will need more hands-on-deck to make it all run smoothly.

Whether your interest is in growing produce, teaching others cooking basics, helping out at special events, or serving a capacity on a board, there is room for all at our table.

Volunteers are the heart of all we do.

We’ve been changing a lot of things up around the Food Bank. And that means new opportunities to volunteer with us and do some fun and interesting things!

Because we are changing the way we process requests for hampers by implementing the Benefits Wayfinder system, we will be have four desks of intake workers taking in clients, versus a single phone line with people waiting on hold during peak periods. You could help us out by receiving training on the intake system and being part of the team that puts food in the hands of people that most need it.

The Food Bank is expanding with another endeavour that will help put more produce in our hampers for those who need good fresh food to eat. We have our greenhouse up and running, and will soon have a hydroponic seacan installed - and this food production expansion will require more hands to keep up.

There’s also work to be done in the Rotary Club of Red Deer East Community Kitchen! The team is looking ahead to next year’s BBQ and events season, and extra help with serving and prep work. Plus we want to get our educational side of the kitchen rolling full steam ahead, so if you enjoy sharing your skills with others, we’d love to meet you!

Are your skills are in the world of business - marketing, accounting, legal, consulting, operations? We are looking to fill three positions on our Board of Directors. It’s a wonderful opportunity to bring your skills to an organization that has a far-reaching impact on the community.

If you’re interested in volunteering with the Food Bank, please be sure to complete our Volunteer Application Form. (For information on the Board of Directors positions available, please call the Executive Director, Mitch Thomson, at 403-342-5355.)
