Volunteers Bind the Fabric of Society

we celebrate and honour our volunteers during national volunteer week
April 16 - 22, 2023.

Volunteers play a vital role in helping us provide food assistance to people in need. While their primary responsibility is to distribute food to those who require it, their impact on the community is much greater. Volunteers at the Red Deer Food Bank have the unique opportunity to weave the community together by fostering a sense of belonging and solidarity.

Our volunteers are woven into everything we do.

The Red Deer Food Bank can be a hub of community activity. Volunteers use their skills and interests to work at events or initiatives that promote community engagement. They host or support community food drives, receive donations at festivals and concerts, and will put in time at special events to support the Food Bank. By involving people from the community in these activities, volunteers create a sense of ownership and investment in the Food Bank's mission.

Volunteering at the Food Bank brings together people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. When people come together to volunteer, they share a common goal and work towards a common purpose. Our volunteers come from all walks of life, from students to retirees. They come from different professions. They come as individuals and as clubs and teams. Through volunteering, they learn from each other and form connections that they may not have made otherwise.

One of the most important and significant aspects of course is that our volunteers have the opportunity to interact with the people they serve. Many people who rely on the Food Bank may feel isolated or marginalized. Volunteers can make a difference by providing a listening ear or simply being friendly and approachable. By treating people with dignity and respect, volunteers can help break down barriers and build bridges between different communities.

In fact, when we asked our volunteers, “What is it that you enjoy most about volunteering at the Red Deer Food Bank?” the common thread woven through all the answers was: “The people.”

It’s the people and all their magnificent, interesting stories, experiences, and personalities that truly weave the tapestry of our organization, and our community.

If you would like to be part of our warm and welcoming team of volunteers, we invite you to apply online today.
